Caedmon is ONE

My sweet little boy.  It has been one full year since you joined our family.  Longer than a year since I've known you but one year since you were placed in my arms.  My boy.  My second boy.  You surprised us all by coming a month early but have done beautifully and nothing about that has slowed you down.

God knew (of course he did) that we needed another little boy in our family and you fit that role
perfectly.  I pray you and Lincoln will grow up being best buds.

We are so blessed by this year and will be extremely grateful for each day
we get with you, our son.  We know we are not promised tomorrow and will
cherish each day, each hour soaking in every bit of you that we can.

Being a second time mom has been so much easier.  Partly because you were/are a super easy
and laid back baby.  I don't even have to entertain you like I had to Lincoln.  You have your own built in entertainer ie. Lincoln.  He's doesn't always appreciate his role or that you follow him everywhere and I foresee using my mom's line from my childhood to my sister and I "God made you sisters brothers for a reason" :)  I always hated it when she said that.  But after all that fighting we are now best friends.

If you had it your way you would be attached to my hip 24/7.  Seriously kiddo you are
a mama's boy (and I really secretly love it).  But lately you have finally realized you have a dad too.  He was the first one that you waved to.  You were so excited when he got home from work and waved excitedly to him from your high chair.  Sweetest sight.

You are busy.  That's all there is to it.  This age is just a busy age.  Curiosity lends itself to constant
moving and exploring.  Something that wears me out but I know it's only for a season and then I'l be missing it (or not) haha.

As these pictures show you have this thing with you tongue.  You stick it out quite often and always to the side like that.  Silly boy I love your little quirks and seeing little bits of your personality shine through as you get older.

You will be walking before I know it and then running, going to school and graduating.
Yes it will go that fast.  I'm bracing myself.

You won't remember this but I'm doing something I swore I would NEVER do since you have
a december birthday.  I'm combining it with Christmas -gasp!- But there is a reason.  The reason is family.  Good enough reason?  You get two parties this way!  One with Daddy's side and one with mommy's side.  So really in the end you win :)

Grandma Hunni got to give you your first birthday present.
what is the paper stuff?

I think your brother thinks it's his.  Don't worry I'll defend it for you.
He only pushed you off once.  Watching your brother get gifts for the first time and you
don't get any is hard, but it'll get easier.  It was good for him.

and just for my reference:
-you cruise everywhere and will stand alone occasionally.
-you are completely switched over to whole milk.  Thankfully that was an easy transition!  now to switch you from bottles to a sippy cup.....and the hunt continues for the perfect one :)
-you aren't afraid to surprise attack your brother.  It's quite fun to watch actually.  Lincoln doesn't find as much humor in it though.
-You stand on your own here and there and accidentally took one step yesterday :)
-you scarf down any kind of food that's put in front of you.
-you go to bed around 6pm every night.  No that's not a typo.  You seriously love your sleep.  And you usually wake up around 7-8am everyday.  Yes that's 13-14 hours STRAIGHT that you sleep every night.  It's a tough job trying to keep you awake long enough so daddy can see you each night, but it's worth it.
-{will update more after your 1 year check up on Tuesday}

and just because I love to look back...

Happy 1st Birthday Caedmon Jay.  I love you to the moon and back!

Happy 2nd Birthday Lincoln!

Woah, did I really just type that?  2nd Birthday?!  I canNOT believe you are already 2 years old.  Holy moly, where does the time go?  Seriously, everyone tells you the first year goes by fast (which is does!) but to me the second year went by just as fast if not FASTER!  Ahhhhhh......time, you need to slow down!  Before I know it, this little boy will not be so little anymore, graduating from high school and leaving this nest....ok I need to stop thinking about that I'm gonna start getting emotional!

Lincoln you have brought SO much joy to us and are such a huge blessing.  You have come so far in your short life and have overcome so much.  I really can't remember what we did with our time before you came along.

Lately you are:
*picking up more and more words each day! (even saying a couple sentences here and there)
*jumping off of anything that mommy will let you
*loving the warm weather and would live outside all day if I let you (I think the fact that your hair is bleach blonde from the sun, it shows we are outside PLENTY)
*You love exploring
*"choo choo's," "chucks," "keyaw's," "balls," and "chac-ter's" make your world go round.  (trains, trucks, cars, balls and tractors for those of you not familiar with lincoln-ese" :)
* cuddling with your bears at bedtime
*If you had your way, your diet would only include pretzels, goldfish and milk

I took a little trip back to 2 years ago and watched this video that I made after Lincoln came home from the nicu.  Make sure you scroll to the bottom of the blog and pause the music playing so you can hear the song on the video.

We love our little 2 year old!

Happy Birthday.......

........to Grandma Hunni!  This post is a little late in the day because Lincoln's been a little under the weather.  We spent ALL morning (not joking) at the doctor's office, picked up some groceries and then it was time to go pick up Aunt Kelsey at the airport!  So I am just now getting around to taking/posting this!  We didn't forget though, and want to wish my mom aka. Grandma Hunni, a VERY happy birthday.  We hope you had a great day and can't wait to see you soon!

Lincoln sure loves his Grandma Hunni

Love this picture of them together!

Lincoln wanted to say "Happy Birthday" himself but can't quite get the right words out so we stuck with writing it :)

Here is the best I could get....

And here are all the out takes - our neighbors were outside and so Lincoln
was a little distracted and didn't want to look at the camera...

quarter of a century

I celebrated my birthday on Saturday and turned the big 2-5!  My hubby spoiled me with these beautiful  flowers...

followed by an oh so loving card, making fun of my name...

thanks hunny, I 'preciate it.  Oh how he makes me laugh.  We laugh a lot about how people get my name wrong.  HELLO...isn't Marie one of THE most common middle names?!  But no, when it's used as a first name people get all uncomfortable and question how to pronounce it.  Murray is a loving nickname some like to call me....just to get me agitated.  Tyler made up for a not so romantic card by writing his own little sompin' sompin' on the side [sorry you don't get to see that part!]  :)

Oh and he made up for it with this note as well!  [on the "name thing" at my massage they pronounced my name as Maurine] I just laughed and didn't correct them.  So for the whole massage, I was Maurine! ha!

Then after my massage I drove home quickly to showered and get all "beautified" for my hot date with the hubster.  I got ready in record time and was all excited, trying to tell myself that I wasn't getting sick.  I had looked forward to this night for a couple weeks now, and I wasn't going to be the one to ruin it.  I forced myself to finish getting dressed and got my coat on, all ready to go.......and I.felt.miserable.  I had chills so I knew I had to have a fever (later found out it was 102.6, yikes!)  So we called our awesome friends who had offered to babysit and told them we weren't going :( and I spent the remainder of the night curled up on the couch trying to warm up, I still had chills....no me gusta.  I feeling lots better today, thankfully!

So...onto a more serious note....
I was asked multiple times how I was feeling about turning 25 and if it makes me feel "old."  I honestly had to think about it for awhile because I hadn't given it much thought.  I just saw it as another birthday, no big deal.  So i thought about it for awhile and came up with the same conclusion.....no big deal.  Instead of being down about getting older, personally I'm celebrating it with a huge smile on my face.  Instead of complaining about being a quarter of a century old, I'm THANKFUL to be able to turn a another year older.  Thankful to God for sparing my life almost 2 years ago after giving birth to my beautiful boy (yes I just said my boy is beautiful).

As I sit here typing this I am bundled up on the couch, looking like a train wreck.  I am reminded again just how fragile our health is (all I have is the flu, but still).  I am so bad at taking each day for granted but want to try even harder to welcome each day with thanks.  It is only by the grace of God that we are given each day.  It really puts things in perspective for me.  I get so easily wrapped up in things of everyday life that in the whole realm of it, things aren't so important.  I need to give attention to those things that are attention worthy and not worry so much about the trivial things.  I want an eternal perspective, all the time.  Not just every once in awhile but daily.  I struggle with this.  I struggle with wanting things. They are just that, things.  I recently read this post over at Building the Blocks

"Because the truth is, no matter who you are and how much money you have in your savings account or what plans you have put into place for your future- one thing you will never have control over in this life- is death.
You and I, we will die one day and there is nothing we can do to change or control that. Whether it be tomorrow in a car accident, 5 years from now from cancer or 15 years from now serving the Lord in a 3rd world country- when God says our time is over- it's over.
And one thing I can promise you is- I would WAY rather stand before the Lord broke, broken and exhausted from fighting the good fight- than stand before Him with my bank statement clutched tightly in the palm of my beautifully manicured hand."
Wow.  That one hit me hard.  As I type this with my overgrown manicured nails (I indulge and get this done once or twice a year and I try to let them grow for as long as I can so I can enjoy them as long as possible).  I don't think it's wrong to get things like that done, it just can NOT become my focus.

"...when God says our time is over - it's over."  Obviously my time could've easily been over in that hospital room but God is not finished with me here on this earth.

I continue to strive to live each day for Him.

Lincoln just wanted to say....

Happy Birthday, Grandpa!!
We hope you have a great Birthday Dad/Grandpa!!
