my most important job as a mother

we all want the best for our kids. what parent doesn't?
we want to provide the best so they can be their best.
to get them into the best schools, programs, sports camps, etc.
to help them learn to the best of their ability.
so that they succeed in school, become the smartest in their class,
or the best quarterback in school history, or get into the highest ranked college,
score outstanding on their ACT's and SAT's, get a degree and a job that'll make them lots of money,
so that they can provide well for their families and be a productive member of society.
nothing wrong with that, right?
of course there's nothing wrong with that but what I've come to realize is...
those aren't the things that matter the most.

Tyler and I's first priority as parents is to teach our boys about Jesus.

that's our most important job.
it's our job to tell them all about Jesus and how He died on the cross to save them.
it's our job to model how to live your life for Christ.
it's our job to teach them how to show Jesus's love to others.
and then to pray over our kids, that they will choose for themselves to follow God.
those are first and foremost.
all that other stuff?
that comes second.

our second priority as their parents is to then teach them
how to use the gifts and talents God has given them
to do what He has purposed them to do.
then it's our job to show them how to glorify God
in all those activities.

1 Corinthians 10:31

31 So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
{emphasis mine}

we have each been given unique gifts
and we are to use them to the best of our ability.
i can't wait to watch lincoln and caedmon's individual gifts
shine through as they grow up.
but if those abilities aren't used to glorify God
then they are useless.
useless accomplishments for the here and now
with no purpose.

the greatest accomplishment?
to hear the words, "well done, my good and faithful servant."
 - God.

so I pray that with each new day,
I am refocused on our #1 priority.
that I keep an eternal perspective
on how we raise our boys.
I will be the proudest mom on earth if my sons grow up having Jesus in their heart, being bold men of God, who love their wives/families well (if they marry) and tell others about this amazing gift of Grace.

  3. I love this post! This has been on my heart so much lately - how to raise my kid(s) as Christians...loving Jesus and listening to God's word. You've got it right, sister!
